The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), has apprehended former deputy speaker of the Punjab Assembly Dost Muhammad Mazari at a private hospital.
According to Dost Mazari’s cousin Shabab, the former deputy speaker of the Punjab Assembly was arrested after visiting a hospital to check on his grandfather, prominent politician Balkh Sher Mazari.
According to anti-corruption officials, Dost Muhammad Mazari was detained in a case involving land grabbing in the Rojhan district. Mazari was arrested after failing to appear in response to two official summonses.
Mazari was summoned to appear before the ACE Punjab office on October 11, but he did not appear, and a case was started against him. Every member of the revenue staff, including the tehsildar of Rojhan Tehsil, was present in the ACE Punjab office.
It should be noted that the PTI and its supporters attempted to depose Mazari as deputy speaker of the Punjab Assembly in July. In the race for chief minister, he sided with PML-N leader Hamza Shehbaz and left the party.
The motion of no confidence was presented by Raja Basharat, the Parliamentary Leader of the Provincial Assembly. When the motion of no confidence was approved by a majority, he was removed from his job.
