Aur Sunao - Arshad Sharif Killing: Army Asks The Government To Set Up An Inquiry Commission
  • Desires a thorough investigation into Sharif’s murder
  • Asks for legal action to be taken against alleged accusers
  • A judicial commission will investigate the matter.

On Tuesday, the General Headquarters (GHQ) urged the government to convene a high-level commission to investigate how Kenyan law enforcement officers killed senior journalist Arshad Sharif.

Kenyan police fatally shot Sharif on the night of Sunday, October 23, in what the Kenyan authorities claimed was a “mistaken identity” killing on the outskirts of Nairobi.

In a letter to the government, the military requested the establishment of an investigating panel to conduct a thorough examination into Sharif’s death at the hands of Kenyan police.

The letter further requests that people levelling accusations or casting aspersions face legal prosecution in accordance with Pakistan’s constitution.

According to Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has earlier stated his intention to form a judicial panel to probe the tragic event.

According to President Aurangzeb, an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the journalist’s murder was launched.

The premier also announced his choice on the social media channel Twitter.

The Prime Minister declared on Twitter that he has decided to form a judicial panel to conduct an investigation into the murder of journalist Arshad Sharif in order to determine the facts of the terrible incident.

According to The Star newspaper in Kenya, the incident was being examined as a “mistaken identity” case by a top police official.

In Pakistan, there have been requests for a probe and public outrage over Sharif’s death circumstances. According to the police report, a roadblock constructed of small stones had been placed to stop traffic, but Sharif’s automobile proceeded to pass through it after the policemen opened fire, despite the blockade. Sharif was hit in the head with one round, and the car was hit with nine.
