Aur Sunao - Azam Nazeer Tarar's Return As Minister Of Law

ISLAMABAD: Following General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s resignation as army chief, Azam Nazeer Tarar will take over as law minister shortly.

Tarar told The Express Tribune that he accepted to resume his prior post because his resignation had been rejected by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

According to Tarar’s sources, both PM Shehbaz and PM Nawaz Sharif gave him permission to resume his duties as law minister on Tuesday.

He took advantage of the chance to meet with his bar colleagues, who recommended him to return to his previous portfolio.

Several federal ministers paid a visit to Tarar’s house in Islamabad on Tuesday and asked him to take over as law minister, according to information received.

They were Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister, Rana Sanaullah, Interior Minister, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Information Minister, Ayaz Sadiq, Economic Affairs Minister, and Khawaja Saad Rafique, Railways Minister.

Influential organizations have previously taken exception at his “anti-establishment sentiments” expressed in his appearance at the Asma Jahangir Conference last month.

He was the conference’s keynote speaker, and while he was speaking, several participants were chanting anti-establishment slogans.

Tarar resigned as law minister as a result of this occurrence.

Lawyers also chastised him for supporting the nomination of “junior justices” for promotion to the Supreme Court.

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) approved the application on October 25 to promote Justice Athar Shahid Waheed of the Lahore High Court and Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi of the Sindh High Court to the Supreme Court as two “young judges.” They will work with Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Athar Minallah.

Tarar was thought to have presented his resignation to pacify lawyers who were dissatisfied with his vote at the JCP meeting.

The Tarar-backed faction was defeated in the Supreme Court Bar Association elections because his retirement did not soothe the lawyers’ concerns.

Following his resignation, Minister of Economic Affairs Ayaz Sadiq was given additional responsibility for the law ministry.

Tarar and the Sharif family have been close since the procedures in the Panamagate case began.

During the PTI administration, Tarar was able to aid PML-N politicians, particularly the Sharif family, in receiving legal assistance when they were in need.

In exchange for his loyalty to the PML-N, he was given a Senate seat.

Tarar is a founder member of the Independent Lawyers Group, popularly known as the Asma Jahangir Group.

Senior attorneys believe Tarar’s actions were responsible for the superior courts‘ support for the current leadership.
