The British Council Pakistan has launched its latest campaign to promote gender equality in STEM fields.
The Council has announced more than 100 scholarships for women from Asia and the Americas interested in pursuing a Master’s degree in the United Kingdom.
The funds would benefit female students interested in studying science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Female STEM researchers from Pakistan and other South Asian countries will be eligible for 48 of the 100 allocated scholarships.
There will be no limit on the number of winners from any one country, and the scholarships will be awarded solely on merit.
This decision, according to the British Council Pakistan, will create new work prospects for bright women in STEM sectors.
Thanks to the scholarships, selected women will be able to study from specialists in the UK’s important Scientific fields.
As a result, they will be better equipped to fund research and innovation in their own country.
The scholarship initiative is being offered by 21 UK universities in collaboration.
Scholars will be eligible to pursue a fully funded Master’s degree or an Early Academic Fellowship at a UK university. Tuition, a stipend, travel expenses, visa fees, health insurance premiums, specialised support for mothers, and English language teaching are all covered by the grant.
Furthermore, by active involvement in the alumni network, the scholarship programme provides a place for lasting ties to the UK.
It also aims to inspire the next generation of female STEM professionals. The most recent cohort had 115 researchers from all across the world, including 15 women scholars from Pakistan.
According to Amir Ramzan, Country Director of the British Council Pakistan, the United Kingdom has a well-known, truly global higher education sector. These scholarships will allow gifted women to take advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to enhance their careers in their selected STEM fields, and then use their skills to do more good when they return home.
Women who have dependents are eligible for the award and will receive additional help.
The application deadline varies each university and is from March to May 2023. Students should check specific university deadlines.
