The first test run of the 46 fully furnished high-speed Train Coaches, or complete units, brought from China last week between Karachi’s Cantonment and Rohri stations took place on Thursday.
The coaches, which were designed to travel at 160 km/h on local lines, were hauled at 120 km/h and even slower during the trial run to test their movement, brakes, and so on.

The carriages are intended to improve travel safety and comfort while also supporting Pakistan Railways in offering better services. According to sources, following the testing, the coaches will only travel on the Green Line between Islamabad’s Margalla Station and Karachi in December.
The Chinese coaches are painted in PR’s signature green on the outside. The interiors of the various coaches are equipped with heating and cooling systems. Some carriages are intended for economy passengers, while others have elegant, comfortable seats for the wealthy.
The coaches have additional space in the form of hand-carry luggage racks in addition to luggage cars. The coaches also include a dining car as well as additional kitchens and kitchenettes.
The parlour coaches include burgundy and pink chairs with plenty of legroom and folding tables, whereas the AC coaches feature purple and blue seats and bunks.
To keep passengers interested while travelling, each headrest has an LED screen attached to the back. From the inside, the coaches more closely resemble the business class of a luxurious passenger plane.
