Gun Attack In Mexico, At Least 18 People Are Killed

According to authorities in southern Mexico, Gun men killed at least 18 people in an attack on Wednesday, including the mayor of the town.

According to prosecutor Sandra Luz Valdovinos, the attack occurred in San Miguel Totolapan, Guerrero. She said that two other people were hurt.

So far, there have been 18 confirmed deaths, according to Valdovinos.

The mayor, Conrado Mendoza, was among those killed.

The motive for the assault was not immediately obvious.

According to news reports, the Los Tequileros gang, which is linked to the formidable drug cartel known as Jalisco Nueva Generacion, was the mastermind behind the daylight attack.

Screams could be heard as local television footage showed the façade of the town hall riddled with bullet holes.

San Miguel Totolapan, a town in Guerrero with a population of around 4,300 people, is located in an area with a history of brutal conflicts between cartels.

Since the government dispatched troops to fight the cartels in 2006, Mexico has experienced over 340,000 killings, the vast majority of which have been traced to drug trafficking organizations.

Los Tequileros’ dominance in San Miguel Totolapan, where they had previously committed kidnappings, started to decline when one of their leaders was killed in a confrontation with local authorities in 2018.
