On Monday, Iran faced more international censure following the murder of a woman in police custody, which sparked huge protests. Tehran accused Washington of orchestrating the unrest in order to destabilize the country.

Iran has cracked down on the greatest rallies it has seen since 2019, which were sparked by the September 16 death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish woman, after she was caught by morality police enforcing the Islamic Republic’s rigorous clothing regulations for women. The case has received much criticism.

However, the sanctions have not deterred Iranians from calling for the toppling of the whole Islamic system, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

On Monday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that sanctions will be imposed on those responsible for Amini’s murder, including Iran’s morality police squad and its leadership.

According to Trudeau, the execution of Mahsa Amini and the assault on protesters demonstrate that Iran continues to abuse human rights.

The activist Twitter account @1500tasvir shared recordings of people yelling “Death to Khamenei” from their homes as well as footage of purported late-Monday street demonstrations in several Tehran neighbourhoods. The video could not be verified by Reuters.

Women have been actively engaging in the protests, waving and lighting their veils on fire.

The human rights organization Hengaw released a video purporting to show people celebrating as women removed their headscarves in Sanandaj, the Kurdistan province’s capital, to protest compulsory hijab. Later footage showed what seemed to be tear gas flooding the streets, as well as loud gunfire.

Another social media video purported to show police firing on protesters late on Monday in Sardasht, a town with a sizable Kurdish population. The video could not be verified by Reuters.

Iran stated that the United States was assisting rioters and aiming to destabilize the Islamic Republic.

Washington makes repeated attempts to undermine Iran’s stability and security, but to no result “According to Nasser Kanaani, a spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry.

Kanaani stated on his Instagram page that the leaders of many European and American countries took advantage of a tragic catastrophe to aid “rioters” and ignored it “Millions of supporters of the system throng the country’s streets and squares.

Appointing an envoy

On Monday, Germany summoned the Iranian ambassador to Berlin in an attempt to encourage Tehran to cease its crackdown and allow peaceful protests. In response to the violence, a spokesman for Germany’s foreign ministry previously announced that the government will examine all options with other European Union members.

Following claims of torture against Iranian women, the US imposed sanctions on Iran’s morality police last week, saying that the unit was to fault for Amini’s death.

According to the Iranian Human Rights Activists News Agency, students from the University of Tabriz’s Dentistry Faculty went on strike on Monday and missed class (save for the emergency room) (HRANA).

The strikes were organized in reaction to many student detentions and harsh contacts with security agents in Iranian colleges, according to the article.

On Sunday, Iran summoned the embassies of Norway and the United Kingdom for alleged involvement in and hostile media coverage of the revolt.

Order of strike

The anti government protests are the largest to rock Iran since riots over fuel prices in 2019, when 1,500 people were allegedly killed in a crackdown on protesters. This was the worst era of domestic turmoil in the Islamic Republic’s history.

According to state television, at least 41 people have died since September 17.

Iran’s president, Ebrahim Raisi, has stated that the government maintains the right to free expression and has ordered an investigation into Amini’s death.

A prominent Iranian teachers’ organization asked both teachers and students to join in the first statewide strike since the unrest began on Monday and Wednesday, according to a statement posted on social media on Sunday.
