ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has asked Russia for an explanation after one of its senators claimed that Pakistan is supporting Ukraine in developing nuclear weapons.
During a discussion between officials from the two countries, Senator Igor Morozov was quoted by a Russian news source as saying that Pakistan and Ukraine are interested in building nuclear weapons.
According to Foreign Office spokeswoman Asim Iftikhar, Russian Senator Igor Morozov’s allegation about Pakistan was “unfounded and incorrect.”
“We are surprised by such an outrageous and unfounded assertion,” stated Pakistan’s foreign ministry spokesman.
According to him, the senator’s statement was “completely discordant” with the spirit of Pakistan-Russia relations and lacked reason.
A Russian state-owned news agency cited the senator as saying: “Ukraine and Pakistan exchanged information on nuclear weapon manufacturing methods.
“Ukraine sent experts to meet with a delegation in Pakistan to discuss nuclear weapon manufacturing procedures.
“We have asked Moscow for an explanation,” the Foreign Office spokeswoman added.
