Director James Cameron voiced fear that the amazing 3D and visual effects in the planned Avatar sequels will make the original 2009 movie look ancient in comparison.
The original film has thankfully undergone a considerable facelift in preparation for its re-release today, less than three months before its widely awaited sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, premieres in theaters on December 16. The freshly restored Avatar looks significantly better than it did 13 years ago after being converted to 4K High Dynamic Range.
In an interview with EW, Cameron recalled his first viewing of the original film after it had been restored. I was worried coming in that it might be a little humiliating in comparison to the new movie, which he said looked amazing.
As the film came to a close, I mmm, I dunno. Before promptly rejecting it, the director said cynically, “I’m now worried about the future film.” I’m not concerned about the new film. It appears to be extremely great. But I’m hoping that more people will go to the movies to find or recreate that experience and learn what an Avatar film is all about.
Cameron’s own children were among those who watched the film twice in theatres. I was fortunate to watch it recently with my three children, ages 15, 18, and 21. Furthermore, they had never seen it in 3D in a theatre, let alone in the wonderful condition it is now in.
After watching the picture again, the filmmaker developed a new appreciation for what he and his crew did at the time: It was remastered in 4K with Atmos 9.1 sound, which were both unavailable at the time. We used high frame rates to intentionally smooth out some of the 3D. As a result, it appears to be better than I’ve ever seen. Did we do that? I sat there contemplating. Wow.

He added, You’re there because of the world’s creation, communication, brilliant laser 3D, and other elements. The leaves of the tree are completely visible. You have the sense that you can seize it. However, it is a new narrative with new characters, hazards, and so on.
Although Cameron and Avatar lay a lot of attention on the visuals, the story will always be the most important aspect of any film. Do these folks matter to me? is the crucial query. claims Cameron. It doesn’t matter how beautiful the scenery or the film is, either.
Do I even care? Do I seem to be reacting emotionally? Resonating with their sense of loss, love, or any other emotion they may be experiencing? The focus of movies is on that. They must first be successful there, no matter how large or little they are.
