Microsoft Is Put Under A Spell By OpenAI

OpenAI, the Microsoft backed inventor of ChatGPT, a much-hyped chatbot that can produce a poetry, a college essay, or even a piece of computer code, is now Silicon Valley’s hottest company.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, was an early investor in OpenAI, and Microsoft is apparently in talks to expand its initial investment from $1 billion to $10 billion in order to compete with Google’s market-dominating search engine.

If Microsoft’s investment goes through, OpenAI would be worth a staggering $29 billion. This would be a huge win for the IT industry at a time when big companies like Amazon, Meta, and Twitter are cutting costs and laying off workers.

Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives believes that “Microsoft is obviously being aggressive on this front and will not be left behind on what could be a potentially game-changing AI investment.”

Before ChatGPT, OpenAI captivated computer geeks with Dall-E 2, a programme that makes digital visuals in response to a simple instruction.

Microsoft, which has made no secret of its interest in AI, has already integrated Dall-E 2 into a number of its products. According to a Bloomberg report, Microsoft intends to integrate ChatGPT into its Bing search engine in order to compete with Google.

People on the internet have been attracted and curious by ChatGPT’s capabilities since its introduction in November.

It can create detailed, human-like replies to a wide range of queries in seconds, raising fears that it may be manipulated by dishonest students or used to distribute misleading information.

According to AI specialist Robb Wilson, founder of the software business OneReach.ai, OpenAI’s phenomenal success is due in part to its excellent marketing approach, which provided non-experts access to its research.

Access to this technology for technologists was one thing. He claimed it created a debate when it was made available in a chat interface and playable by non-developers. OpenAI was launched in late 2015 by Sam Altman, a 37-year-old entrepreneur and former president of startup incubator Y Combinator. He is the company’s CEO.
