Germany declared on Tuesday that it is prepared to assist the Punjab government with water storage.
The German ambassador, Alfred Grannas, has phoned Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to enquire about the recent flood disaster and recovery efforts.
According to him, the effects of climate change have had a huge impact on Pakistan.
The chief minister termed the flood-related destruction as “beyond description” in numerous parts of Pakistan, particularly the southern Punjab provinces.
He emphasised that all countries must quickly tackle this massive challenge by implementing a coordinated plan.
He noted that a one-of-a-kind package had been devised to aid in the rehabilitation of those affected, and that Pakistan requires the full assistance of the international community during this difficult period.
In my former employment, I began the project to channelize the water from the Koh-e-Sulaiman hill torrents in 2002. Unfortunately, the future administration terminated this beneficial initiative. According to Pervaiz Elahi, we are presently rerouting the water and building tiny dams.
He went on to say that a strong dam network would have saved Pakistan from such destruction while also preserving rainwater for future use. Dams are critical for Pakistan in order to prevent important water from being lost at sea.
He argued that if more dams were built, we would be safe from such damage.
Pakistan would want to benefit from Germany’s experience in health, water storage, and vocational and technical education because Germany is our best partner in these areas. German technology support for water storage would be very appreciated, and Punjab would take the lead in encouraging partnership with Germany in a variety of fields, according to the CM.
