Custom chat backgrounds have been available in WhatsApp for some time, but only on mobile devices. Although the option was available in WhatsApp Web and the previous desktop app, it has yet to appear in the more recent native WhatsApp Desktop.
The feature is luckily just around the corner now that it has been discovered in the WhatsApp Desktop beta (version 2.2316.2.0) via the Microsoft Store. This update was noted by the WABetainfo staff, as is customary.
With the latest update, a ‘Personalization’ option should be introduced to the app’s settings, allowing you to choose from a selection of chat wallpapers. Doodles on these backdrops can be incorporated or excluded as well.
Take a look at the screenshot below.

Right now, there are only 15 preset color options available, but we expect that number to grow quickly. Because there is no option to upload your own images for different chats, this appears to be the first iteration of the feature.
WhatsApp will almost probably improve the personalization feature after it is launched.
To try out the feature, download the most recent beta of WhatsApp Desktop for Windows from the Microsoft Store. However, because it is only available to beta testers, those looking for a stable release will have to wait a little longer.
