SpaceX, Tesla, and, most recently, Twitter were all started by Elon Musk. Elon Musk just stated that he is starting a new company called xAI. The goal of this company is to figure out the “true nature of the universe.
The corporation will make all relevant company-related disclosures on Friday.
On Wednesday, Elon Musk announced the establishment of his own artificial intelligence company, xAI, in an attempt to compete with OpenAI.
The Tesla tycoon would run the company separately from his other companies, according to the xAI website, but that the technology developed would benefit those businesses, including Twitter.
The main goal of xAI is to figure out what the world is really like. Musk said in a tweet that the company’s goal was to understand reality and answer the most important question in life.
The startup hired researchers and staff from the University of Toronto, OpenAI, Google Deep Mind, and Tesla. The group has made significant contributions to noteworthy efforts such as OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 chatbots and Deep Mind’s Alpha code. Musk wishes to compete with OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic, which operate popular chatbots such as Bard, Claude, and chatGPT.
Dan Hendricks is currently the stage director for the Centre of AI Safety, a San Francisco-based organization that raises warnings concerning the rapid growth of AI.
In June, Dan Hendricks sent an open letter to world leaders, warning that AI was as hazardous to people as pandemics and nuclear war, and that it targeted human intelligence.
Not only that, but Musk has received repeated warnings about the dangers and pitfalls posed by AI, referring to it as “our biggest existential threat” and claiming that moving too swiftly was akin to “summoning the demon.”
However, many academics and ethicists questioned the letter, believing that focusing too much on AI advancement and the risks that come with it would divert attention away from the current harms that some algorithms are already causing to marginalized communities, rather than an undefined future.
The new organization, according to Greg Yang, co-founder of xAI, would study the “mathematics of deep learning,” a type of artificial intelligence, and “develop a theory of everything for large neural Networks to advance AI.”
In an April interview with a TV station, Musk expressed his thoughts on the new AI tool dubbed “TruthGPT.” He predicted that the new startup would arrive somewhat late after OpenAI and Google Deep Mind achieved rapid development.
Despite the fact that it was late in the game, he said, “I guess I’ll provide a third alternative.” Is it conceivable? I’m not certain. We’ll have to wait and see.
In March, Musk purportedly formed xAI in Nevada. The company declared its separation from X Corp and indicated that it would work closely with X (Twitter), Tesla, and other companies to further its mission.
Musk’s announcement of his new ventures comes at the height of his feud with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg over Threads, a Twitter competitor.
Elon Musk launched a $44 billion bid for Twitter in October. The app’s future is uncertain given that Meta has released Threads, a competitor app. Elon Musk had a rough time when the app got 100 million sign-ups within a week after its launch.
