PTA Gives Last Warning To Unregistered Social Media Companies

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has sent a final notice to unregistered social media firms operating in Pakistan, requesting that they register and assist in the removal of offensive and criminal information, including blasphemy.

The authorities have suggested that these organisations be prosecuted by the State Bank of Pakistan, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, the Federal Board of Revenue, and the Ministry of Commerce.

The PTA has also urged businesses and organisations to avoid doing business with unregistered social media firms and to check their registration status beforehand.

The authorities were unhappy and found this company’s lack of engagement on such a sensitive subject to be inappropriate.

According to the PTA, unregistered businesses will face fines under social media restrictions, and organisations that refuse to comply with government directions risk being shut down.
